FAQ

Before you come to your spray tan appointment?

Waxing and shaving should be done at least 24 hours before your appointment.

Shaving too close to your appointment can cause a blotchy ‘spot’ effect.

Waxing is a great option before a spray tan, as it effectively exfoliates skin by removing a layer of skin during your treatment. Waxing also enables you to be hair-free for a number of weeks, allowing you to avoid shaving which can reduce the longevity of your tan.

We recommend regular exfoliation of your skin, to remove dead and dry skin cells, and leave your skin bright. In the days leading up to your spray tan, buff away any stubborn old tan.

Make sure you’ve exfoliated the day before or morning of your appointment, paying special attention to areas like your elbows, knees and feet.

We have Lusso Tan Tan Removal Bath Bombs and exfoliating gloves in the studio to purchase.

Remove all skincare products before coming to your appointment. Moisturisers can create a barrier between our tanning solution and your skin, leaving an undesirable result. This includes deodorant, perfume, body lotion and make up.

Please come to your appointment in loose clothing. (Come in your PJs - we don’t care!) Close fitting clothing items can cause your tan to rub off. We suggest leaving your bra off afterwards, and slipping into flip flops!

How do you remove old tan?

Exfoliate using an exfoliating glove and soap. Massage in circular motions, concentrating on those tricky bits – like your elbows, knees and feet.

What happens during your appointment?

Our aim is to make you feel as comfortable as possible. If you have any questions - just ask! We’re a friendly bunch and will try hard to make you happy and relaxed.

We have disposable underwear and bras for your use. You are welcome to wear your own undies, but the tan can of course stain clothing. Likewise, you can keep your bra on, although we suggest removing your straps. Removing your bra altogether can ensure an even tan on your top half.

Your nails are porous, so a barrier cream will be applied to stop any discolouration.

We also provide you with a hair net to stop your spray tan from coating your locks!

What to do straight after your tan?

After your spray tan appointment, your colour has to develop on your skin. Between your appointment and your first shower, avoid activities where you may become sweaty or wet, as this could make your tan streak.

Avoid touching your body while your tan develops, as this will stain your palms.

Leave your tan on for the recommended time - this will be discussed at your appointment.

Make your first shower after your spray tan a quick rinse in luke-warm water with little or no body wash. Use the palm of your hand to wash the bronzer off, and pat your body dry instead of rubbing.

Apply your usual moisturiser to your skin.

How to prolong your tan?

Moisturise every day – best straight after your shower!

Avoid long hot showers, saunas and swimming.

Avoid oil based soaps, moisturisers or sun screens.

Lightly exfoliate after 4 to 5 days to encourage even fading.

Maintaining your Summer Skies Spray Tan on holiday

We know you want to arrive at the airport looking your most beautiful self, and that includes a pre-holiday tan!

But swimming in the pool and sweating in the sun can cause your bronze glow to fade quickly.

Here’s what we recommend: hang in the shade, and keep those frozen daiquiris coming!

Don’t forget to apply sunscreen - you can still burn! The moisturising effect of the sunscreen will help keep your skin moisturised.

Add in a gradual tanning moisturiser to help maintain your glow!

Remember to avoid oil based sunscreens or moisturisers as these can break your tan down.

Bridal Spray Tan guide

We want to ensure that come your big day, you look and feel beautiful, with your ‘glow’ simply enhancing your natural skin tone.

Getting the colour you want can often be down to testing the tan on your skin, which is why we recommend a bridal package, which includes 3 spray tan appointments.

Different skin tones react differently to tan solutions, and it can depend how long your tan is left on your body as to the level of bronze that will develop.

At your second appointment we can review how you felt, and make any adjustments to DHA%, or suggest leaving it on for more or less time.

Often we hear that a bride will have her makeup trial for her hen’s party. Having your second spray tan at this point is a great idea as the tan acts as a primer for your makeup to be applied too, and will give you the best indication of your final look for your wedding day.

We recommend for your big day, having your tan applied around 48 hours before.

The only safe tan.

Harmful UVA and UVB rays from tanning beds and the sun can cause premature ageing, not to mention skin cancer.

A professional spray tan gives your the golden glow that will leave your skin looking radiant without the damage.

Using sunbeds and sunlamps increases the risk of developing some skin cancers. The risk increases the more you use sunbeds, and if you started using these when you were young. A study in 2012 estimated that around 99 deaths in the UK were the direct result of malignant melanoma caused by sunbeds.
